Cold Weather Tips

How to beat Old Man Winter

December 2013 Feature Web Exclusive

This week we officially turn the calendar and put 2013 in our rear view mirror as we look forward to the upcoming year. But no matter what we have planned for 2014 with our diesel trucks, the reality for a lot of us is that we're still in the middle of winter and January typically means the coldest temps of the year.

Hopefully the New Year will bring plenty of modifications and upgrades, but let's first focus on surviving the winter so you're truck will still be in great shape come spring.

Below are some winter tips that are intended to be used as a general guideline and not as an absolute rule. These are recommendations compiled for numerous resources to help you survive old man winter.

It's safe to say most diesels are irritated by the onset of cold weather. They grumble, sputter when turning over, and make a lot of a racket when they finally get up and go-like a tired body leaving a warm bed on a cold day. Well we all know that when we are fit and trim, that leaving that bed is less of a problem than when we are out of shape. Well the same can be said about diesel engines and driveline components. Hence, a well-maintained truck that is ready for cold weather is the first step to problem-free winter driving experiences.
