WHAT:
A diesel fuel filtration, water separation and heating system for any light- and medium-duty diesel engine applications.
HOW MUCH:
The TurboFyner retails for $199.95, and filters start at $15.95. www.ramcoperformance.com or call (701) 476-1320.
WHAT IT DOES:
The compact TurboFyner unit is a 4-in-1 system. It filters fuel, giving you extra protection on top of the engine's fuel filter. It acts as a water separator system. And it uses your choice of engine coolant or transmission fluid to heat the fuel as it circulates through the TurboFyner. It is capable of keeping up with fuel flows up to 200 gallons per hour. The TurboFyner housing is machined from billet aluminum for durability, and the filter is rated to 3 micron.
WHAT STANDS OUT:
We liked the fact that the TurboFyner heats the fuel as it filters it. This is especially helpful on an older truck, like a 12-valve Cummins that doesn't like winter driving, particularly in our neck of the woods. It's also something that every biodiesel user should have installed. Another bonus: the design of the TurboFyner puts the filter on top of the housing, so that the fuel drains out of the unit when you are changing filters rather than down your arm and onto the driveway.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
There's no real clear indication from the manufacturer on where to install the TurboFyner, but that's mainly because it's a universal system and that would require instructions for a dozen different applications. It's best to have a shop install the TurboFyner, since you're dealing with splicing fuel lines and coolant or transmission lines.
Getting improved fuel filtration, water separation and the added bonus of heated fuel is always a good thing, and at $200, it's tough to beat the value.
