2011 Engine Ratings
The horsepower number battle has Ford and GM facing off
over a handful of ponies that will put one atop the other.
Ford's new 6.7L Power Stroke initially topped the 2011 class wars with a 390 horsepower rating and 735 lb-ft of torque at 1,600 rpm, making its peak horsepower at 2,800 rpm. To gain 2010 EPA emissions compliance, the 6.7L V8 Power Stroke utilizes exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), diesel particulate filter (DPF) and diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) technology.
We don't have 2011 specs on Dodge Ram's 6.7L Cummins, but we do know that the engine isn't going to change much from its 2010 setup--which is rated at 350 horsepower at 3,000 rpm and 650 lb-ft of torque at 1.500 rpm. The 6.7L Cummins already meets 50-state 2010 EPA requirements without the use of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF).
GM's 2011 version of the popular Duramax--dubbed the LML--was bumped up in horsepower to gain an edge over the new Ford engine. The LML Duramax is rated at a class-leading 397 horsepower at 3,000 rpm and 765 lb-ft of torque at 1,600 rpm. GM also uses EGR, DPF and DEF systems on the new Duramax. Insiders say Ford is planning a power increase within the next year. Captain obvious pointed out that GM will do likewise...
If you're like us, it's easier to not wash your truck than to go through the work of keeping it spotless. That said, we still appreciate a thorough wash and a good wax coat every once in a while.

6.7L Cummins Recall
Chrysler initiated a voluntary recall in May for 186,099 2007 thru 2009 Dodge Ram Heavy Duty 6.7L Cummins-powered trucks. The recall addresses an issue where the ECM may illuminate the check engine light where no conditions exist, or under certain conditions produce heavy soot that could lead to turbo failure, EGR problems or excessive DPF plugging. The issue is resolved by reprogramming the ECM. Check your local Dodge Ram dealer to see if your truck is included in the recall.
