As pickup truck fans (particularly diesel lovers) can attest, the advent of the selective catalytic reduction control process for today's diesel is seen as a real crimp on the widespread introduction of mainstream compression-ignition engines. Nevertheless, urea injection is here, and diesel exhaust fluid producer Yara International has launched a mobile DEF locator application that'll hunt down a provider for the catalyst in your area.
Called Air1 DEF Mobile Locator, the Yara-endorsed app for Apple iPhone, iPad, and iTouch is free and finds the fluid for your new Ford Super Duty, Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra HD, Ram Heavy Duty Chassis Cab (standard pickups still make due with aggressive EGR), BlueTec Mercedes-Benz, or diesel BMW. Drivers can search for a DEF-stocked retail location by city, state, or postal code and the app will supply GPS directions. Hopefully, you aren't already in limp-home mode when whipping out the iPhone.
Android- and Windows 7-compatible smartphone users can download this app in August and September, respectively.
For a free download, visit iTunes.
