Automotive camera manufacturer Bierley Electronics recently announced that its AmeriCam C2 back-up camera is now available in the U.S. The C2 back-up camera, which until recently was only available in the U.K., features a new design that allows drivers to see the bumper when reversing. Unlike the C1, which mounts flush with the bumper and uses red, yellow and green guidelines to gauge distance, the C2 camera mounts above the license plate. This new position enables the driver to view the bumper while at the same time maintaining a wide-angle view of the truck’s blind zone. The C2 camera has a universal fit that can be used for most trucks and SUVs.
Designed in Silicon Valley, Calif., all AmeriCam products are engineered to the highest standards. The C2 camera is rated at IP68, which means it is impervious to dust and water. A single connection is made to the backup lamp circuit and ground. A 3/16-inch connector is then fed through the vehicle to the front where it is plugged into the 3.5-inch slim line monitor. No other connections or work are involved. When the vehicle is put into reverse gear, a sharp and vivid color image is instantly displayed on the screen. With the patented single-cable technology, installation can take as little as 30 minutes. Since AmeriCam products are modular plug-and-play devices, additional features such as a front camera or trailer camera can be easily added at any time. The new C2 camera retails for about $200.
