Last time we checked in with Ford's new offering, people had some preeeeeety strong opinions about some of the features. Hopefully we can find a little more common ground this time. Right, guys? Guys?
Anyway, Ford has released some information about the forthcoming Super Duty trucks. Apparently they're following the same line of thinking as the F-150s and giving the Super Dutys a fully-boxed steel frame wrapped in aluminum alloy. More than 95% of that frame is made out of high-strength steel, which gives the Super Duty a frame that's 24 times stronger than before.
The reason for the aluminum wrapper is three-fold: it's rust proof, corrosion resistant, and way lighter than steel. The weight savings end up being about 350 pounds, which is gonna give you more power elsewhere.
For all you modification enthusiasts (isn't that everyone?) the new "Chassis Cab" features a new open-C-channel behind the cab that makes mods a cinch. No details on price yet, but since we're talking the 2017 model here, that probably won't come out until next year some time.
