That’s a pretty attention-grabbing headline, isn’t it? Well, according to Ford, the newest version of the Power Stroke powering its F-650/750 work trucks could theoretically go around the Earth 20 times before needing a major service. They made this announcement at the Work Truck Show in Indianapolis last week, where they unveiled their new Super Duty chassis cab work trucks.
“Major service” is defined as a service that requires the removal of cylinder heads or dropping the oil pan to reach internal components. Ford is basing this figure on the 330hp engine which produces 725 pound-feet of torque. This estimate, called a B10 rating, is a measurement of time by which ten percent of a particular product will have failed. That means that 90% of engines will make it to that half-million mark without major trouble. That’s a pretty good number! The engines also carry a five-year/250,000-mile limited warranty.
