With Congress set to adjourn at the end of the year, time is running out to lend your support to the RPM Act. What is the RPM Act? You can find the full rundown here, but here’s the short version: in July 2015, the EPA submitted proposal that would prohibit the conversion of street-legal vehicles into race vehicles. They withdrew the proposal, but continue to assert authority under the Clean Air Act to regulate the modification of race vehicles. The RPM (Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports) Act seeks to clarify that modifying a street-legal vehicle in a racing vehicle has always been legal, and that modifying one for racing use is not considered tampering.
SEMA PAC will host an event on Tuesday, November 1 at the Westgate Casino is Las Vegas to raise awareness of the RPM Act. In addition, there will be an RPM Act support station, celebrity appearances, opportunities to network with industry professionals such as SEMA chairman Doug Evans, an open bar and premium catering, and door prizes such as a 55-inch HDTV and Apple iPad. The event is open exclusively to SEMA members who contribute to the SEMA PAC, so even if that isn’t you, you probably know someone who is, so encourage them to attend!
