Chevy has finally debuted the new L5P Duramax engine, and by now you've certainly seen them roaming the streets. We went all the way to Illinois to test drive ours! Check out the video for in-depth impressions, then read on to get some tech specs.
Chevy understands the need for more power all too well, and is committed to exceeding your expectations. Thus, it designed the 2017 Silverado, which is meant to give you the proficient pulling ability you need for the most demanding jobs with the 6.6L V8 L5P Duramax diesel engine. The engine delivers 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque, producing a maximum conventional towing capacity of up to 20,000 pounds and maximum 5th wheel and gooseneck towing capacities of 23,200 pounds. You will really feel that, too, as these trucks can tow!
The Silverado also comes with a set of controls to help you tow safely. They include:
- Trailer sway detection technology automatically applying brakes
- Available exhaust brake reducing amount of braking needed down grades
- Rear view camera with grid lines to help attach a trailer
The following wheelbase configurations are available:
- Regular Cab: 134-inch wheelbase
- Double Cab: 144 or 158-inch wheelbase
- Crew Cab: 154 or 168-inch wheelbase
In terms of width, the Regular Cab is 80.12 inches, and the Double Cab and Crew Cab are 80.51 inches. All Duramax Silverado models come with a 36-gallon fuel tank.
