The adapter uses a small pickup probe attached to the outside of the vehicle’s alternator that reads its rotation and converts its outgoing signal to a 12-volt square wave signal that any Auto Meter tachometer can use to count revs. To go with it, Summit Racing carries Auto Meter’s 6K Tachometers that are a perfect fit for the low rev limits of a diesel engine.
