Here’s a nice-looking newer Duramax! Being a GMC, this rig is a little more on the upscale side too. Owned by Ryan Unrau of Chilliwack, B.C. (a good friend of Morgan Miller, who was featured in our June issue), it’s quite an aggressive-looking beast with its wrapped Matte Charcoal color scheme and custom-painted headlights. Making it stand out are its large suspension, wheels, and tires. The suspension is a 6.5-inch BDS lift kit, giving his truck a completely integrated look as it dramatically increases ground clearance; the kit makes the aggressive color scheme and custom headlights make even more sense. The kit also makes the truck’s sub-frame nearly indestructible for extreme off-roading, thanks to its front and differential skid plates. The suspension allows for the use of his massive Specialty Forged 22-inch wheels and 40-inch Nitto Trail Grappler tires. The truck is well-balanced for an all-terrain lifestyle with the huge Trail Grapplers. “My mud flaps only cover half of the tire,” he laughs.
This truck is Ryan’s daily driver, and it sees some great usage off the beaten path, especially as he lives near the mountains. He takes a lot of mountainous background photos on his Instagram @murdered_to_the_maxx as well. He’s happy with how his truck looks now, especially with how the color scheme spices it up, but he’s definitely not done with his build as he plans to add to the truck’s inner workings in the near future. “I plan on doing motor work later with it,” he says. Of course, on a newer truck, it’s understandable that holding off on engine and transmission work would be the path to choose, as you can run the risk of voiding your warranty. With that said, Ryan is definitely making a smart move.
