DT TESTED: Bluetooth Jobsite Radio

I don’t recall ever visiting a shop where music wasn’t playing in the background. It might not always be my preferred choice of tunes, but something is always playing to keep the day moving along while wrenches are being turned. Gone it seems, however, are the days when shops would listen to radio stations. Instead I find most garages love to play “Bluetooth roulette,” where everyone is trying to be the shop’s DJ.

While Bluetooth radios are quite common, tough and durable units are not. So when searching for a new radio after my last one took a dive off my tool box, I came across the 12V/20V MAX* Jobsite Bluetooth Radio from DEWALT that I’m enjoying so far. DEWALT is a brand I trust as I’ve had good luck with its tools in the past, so it was an easy decision at $149 to give it a try. It’s compatible with all DEWALT 12V MAX*, 20V MAX*, and FLEXVOLT batteries (sold separately), but I don’t plan to be too far from a
power outlet anyway.

At just over 8 pounds it’s 45 percent lighter and has a 45 percent smaller bench top footprint than DEWALT’s Charger Radio, for what it’s worth. I know I knocked on radio stations but it does have AM/FM capabilities with 6-FM memory presets if you prefer, as well as a 3.5mm auxiliary input for a direct mobile device connection. In addition, this radio offers Bluetooth wireless streaming with a maximum range of up to 100 feet, but I assure you there is no Bluetooth roulette in my garage as I control the music. An included USB port charges a user’s mobile device at 2 amps when the radio is plugged into the wall and powered via the included AC cord.

My favorite feature on this Jobsite Bluetooth Radio however, is the built-in roll cage that helps protect it from drops and bumps and incorporates an antenna slot that allows the antenna to fit within the top handle, protecting it from damage.
It sounds great, easy-to-use and is well-protected. What more could you ask for…other than to veto that one guy in the shop who has the worst taste in music ever?
