Chevy Mid-Sized Diesel Announced

December 2013 News, Duramax

While the 2014 RAM 1500 EcoDiesel and the Nissan Titan turbodiesel have been a hot topic in our industry, it looks like Chevy wants in on the action as well. At the Los Angeles Auto Show it was announced that the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado will offer a diesel engine option on its mid-size pickup.

When the Colorado arrives next year, the range will feature a 193-horsepower four-cylinder gasoline engine and a 302-horse 3.6-liter V-6. Each is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, though four-wheel drive will be an option.

Colorados will be able to tow up to 6,700 pounds. An extended cab model will be the base configuration, with a crew-cab body also available. A maximum six-foot bed will be available on either model.

By late 2015, a third unit will join the Colorado range--a 2.8-liter Duramax four-cylinder diesel.

Given the Colorado's modest size and the lack of rival diesels in this class of truck, it stands a good chance of being the most fuel-efficient pickup on the market--though no EPA fuel economy figures have been released for any of the upcoming Colorado range.

For buyers who don't really need a full-sized or heavy-duty truck to meet their daily needs, this Colorado from Chevy in 2015 might be worthy of a closer look.
