It's been a few weeks since our October issue showed the latest progress on getting a LB7 Duramax to 1,000 horsepower.
Here's the latest update in the truck's saga. According to the series' author, Chad Westfall, Jim Jones, the truck's builder, replaced the head gaskets and has spent a lot of time tuning the Duramax over the last month. On October 24, the truck rolled back onto the dyno at Texas Performance Diesel.
The truck's first run was on fuel only, putting down 791 rear-wheel horsepower. The second and third runs used a small shot of nitrous, getting the numbers up to 962 and 977 respectively. The fourth pull used two shots of spray for 990.94 rwhp. The fifth run, with a 1.03 shot and a .40 shot of nitrous, got the dyno numbers to peak at 991.89 rwhp.
Two weeks prior, the truck competed in the NADM Texas Roundup, where it ran a quarter-mile at 10.71 seconds. The truck with driver weighed in at 6,950 pounds. The mathematical equation there showed the truck was putting down 1,100 horsepower on the track.
