Winter has past, the tracks have been prepped, and the projects have been finished-it's time to do soem racing. The National Hot Rod Diesel Association (NHRDA) kicked off the 2009 race season this past March with the second annual Desert Diesel Nationals held in Whittmann, AZ.
What better place to kick off the new NHRDA season than in the warm and sunny climate of Arizona. Held at the speedworld dragstrip just outside of Phoenix the event brought out some of the biggest names in Diesel Drag Racing, along with plenty of daily drivel diesel enthusiasts.
Banks power brought their Duramax powered S-10 sidewinder truck, setting a new diesel drag truck reconrd and finally breaking the 180 mph barrier. The guys from Texas Diesel Power had the worlds only Diesel powered funny car at the track, proving that diesel performance ins't just limited to one- ton pickups. And wide open performance made the drive down with their 10-second power stroke. Like always, the sportsman E/T class had a strong showing of daily driven pick-ups, the staging lanes were full for most of the day. Overall the event went off without a hitch, everyone seemed to have a blast, spectators and competitors both. You'd be hard pressed to find a bettwe way to spend a warm and sunny Saturday, than a fun filled day of diesel drag racing.
