Today Diesel Tech magazine is in southern California, but instead of packing a surf board, we’re packing the heads from our 2003 LB7 that is having some overheating issues. When we knew our heads needed to be rebuilt, we wasted no time and headed straight to SoCal Diesel in Valencia, Calif., to visit Guy Tripp.
When it comes to Duramax engines, this is a shop we trust with our own truck and it was worth every mile of the journey to SoCal Diesel just to talk with Tripp who comes to our industry with an impressive racing resume and extensive performance knowledge.
In a few short days we’ll have our heads back and then we’ll reunite them with our LB7 that is currently sitting at Outlaw Diesel in Ogden, Utah.
Full step-by-step details from start to finish will be coming to Diesel Tech magazine—including a water pump tip we picked up from SoCal Diesel that every LB7 owner needs to know about. Once we’re able to get our Duramax back on the road, we’ll tell you all about it so keep an eye out for this install.
If there is one thing I took from our trip to SoCal Diesel, it’s how this shop uses top-of-the-line equipment and technology that to be honest, we had no idea even existed. It’s solid reputation in the diesel industry led us to southern California and seeing the shop in person didn’t disappoint. We know our heads are in good hands now. Visit www.socaldiesel.com.
