Warning: if your friends are anything like mine, you’re going to want to keep quiet if you invest in this quality torque wrench from Snap-on. The upside is you’ll be the most popular guy in the neighborhood since there are so many torque-to-yield bolts being used today, especially when modifying diesel trucks. However, the bad news is you might have to go track it down from your friends when you need it. I know this to be a fact because I used to be “that guy” who was always borrowing a torque wrench from my neighbor. I finally decided—well he decided—that it was time for me to get my own.

I’ve always been impressed with the quality of Snap-on tools so that’s where my search began and ended. I went with the electronic, TechAngle, flex ratchet, half-inch torque wrench (ATECH3FR250B) from Snap-on with a range from 12.5 to 250 ft/lbs. of torque. It retails for $549.95, which I feel is a fair price considering the quality and the two-year warranty. There are four alert modes (LCD, Dual LED, Audible and Vibratory), but my favorite is the dual progressive LEDs that allow me to see active torque at various work positions and to anticipate torque and slow down as I get closer to my desired level. Other highlights include the cycle counter (to ensure how many fasteners have been torqued), a long handle with seamless textured grip, long battery life (80 hours of continuous use) as well as Snap-on’s Dual 80 Design that allows only 4.5 degrees of ratchet arc. For my needs, this torque wrench does it all and then some and is worth the investment.
