We decided to stop by Adrenaline Performance in Shelley, ID, and ask Colby Hulse, “Whatcha working on?” Colby, having experienced the editorial staff at Diesel Tech Magazine through past projects, wasn’t at all intimidated with a digital recorder in his face and camera snapping pictures as he worked.
Colby had a Ford F-350 Super Duty up on the lift and was in the process of installing a BDS 2.5-inch leveling kit. “It’s pretty straightforward,” Colby explained.
He was in the process of disconnecting the sway bar links from the axle mounts so he could remove the bolt mounting the coil perch to the axle and remove the perch from the vehicle. Then he could install the new spacer.
“We will install new longer shocks, front and rear,” he said. “We need to put the 2.5-inch puck underneath the front coil to give it the space. Then we will install a new track bar drop bracket to keep the proper track bar geometry.”
Colby said the main thing you pay attention to is when you remove the shocks.
“You have to be careful on this model because your shocks are your down bump stops like limiter straps,” he explained. “So if you’re not paying attention and you take your shock off you can actually drop your front axle.”
The process takes about three hours to install.
