In the last two issues of Diesel Tech (February and April), we introduced you to a new series of stories, called "_Horsepower Road Blocks" (how to make 500, 750 and 1,000 horsepower). In the first issue we covered the 5.9L Cummins common rail engines and in the last issue we covered the 6.6L Duramax engines. So the last article in this series will cover the most popular, best-selling engine, the Ford Powerstroke.
The Ford Powerstroke engine was introduced in mid 1994 as the 7.3L indirect injection (IDI) engines were being phased out. The new engine was a 7.3L DIT (Direct Injection Turbocharged) engine built by Navistar, which is a subsidiary of International Truck Engines. These engines featured a totally revolutionary fuel injection system that was unlike anything the diesel market had seen before.
